This collection was created in my Advanced Fashion Illustration class. The first half of the class we had to do our illustrations by hand and the second half we got to choose to do them by hand or digitally. I still prefer doing my illustrations in Illustrator, mainly so I can create my prints for my designs at the same time I do the illustrations. That way the prints are ready to get printed on fabric once I’m done with the technical parts.

Target Market Board (Me)

For this collection I had to chose a person either real or fictional and create six looks they would wear from specific categories. I, of course, chose myself. I made a Target Market Board inspired by some of my favorite things, leather jackets, flowy dresses, full skirts, circus training, travel, shoes, inspirational quotes, and eating healthy (I’m working on that last one, haha!).

The categories to design were: Cocktail, Work, Casual, Swim, Exercise, and Formal.

The cocktail dress isn’t really my style, but I thought maybe if I tried it I might like it, so if I decide to actually make the dress we’ll see how I feel in it. I just struggle with feeling comfortable in pencil-styled skirts and dresses. I love all things circular and poofy and fun and pencil-skirts are not those things to me.

The work outfit is so fun! A red circle skirt with a bow paired with a white long sleeved V-neck knit top. Basically what I want to wear on a daily basis. Have you noticed there’s some kind of full circle skirt in almost all of my collections?

The casual look was based on a pair of my favorite gingham capris I had when I was 19. I wore them so often the back seam wore out from the stress of constant wearing. I still have them and plan to make them for myself using the existing pair as a base pattern for the new one. The top in this look is a basic scoop-neck t-shirt tie-dyed orange and blue. I want to design the fabric and get it printed, but I need to experiment with tie-dye first to see how the colors blend together.

The exercise look is basically what I wear to a pole dancing class. I would love to make my own pole shorts and tops for my classes so I added that in the collection too. Pole dancing is #17 on my Master List. It’s one of those things I’ve started and stopped multiple times. From moving somewhere that doesn’t have a studio to getting pregnant to being overwhelmed by schoolwork, it’s been very difficult for me to progress beyond level 1. Now that school is over I’m going to rework my schedule so I can go to classes at least 3 times a week.

I have a love-hate relationship with the formal look and the cocktail dress, but everything else I love! I will probably edit it to make it more wearable for myself. Like adding sleeves to the cocktail dress and changing the color of the formal dress.

My favorite piece from this collection is the swimsuit. I’m definitely going to make myself this swimsuit. I’m so fair skinned that I burn super easily and I hate wearing sunscreen so the less skin exposed while out in the sun the better. I want to get the fabric printed so I can make it. I will also design a cover-up skirt or wrap to go with it.

Tell me: Which is your favorite? Why?
